Commonly called “laughing gas,” this is great for cooperative children with a few cavities. It helps with mild anxiety and is very safe and easy to use.
Your child may find it very difficult to stay still during dental treatment when they are young and have several cavities. To make sure the procedure is done in a safe manner, we offer oral sedation for your child’s comfort. It is a liquid medication that will take about 45 minutes to be effective. We have a special waiting room where you and your child can relax and watch TV. When under the influence of conscious oral sedation, your child may become drowsy and relaxed but will remain awake throughout the procedure.
When a child is young, has many cavities, and is extremely nervous, we work with an anesthesia provider to safely place a child under anesthesia in our office. Your child will be asleep during the procedure.
This is what most people call “being put to sleep” in the hospital setting. It’s generally recommended for young children with extensive cavities or medically compromised children.
